Today’s game is against Royal Greenwich Borough; a side we played in the first game of the season back in September, although both teams are much changed since then. As the game started, for the first couple of minutes, the ball was mainly being played in the middle of the park, with both teams getting a hold of the ball in that area, on a difficult pitch. Both sides also looked to play out from the back, meaning we had to be ready to close them down quickly whenever they had the ball. Despite both sides being relatively even, our opponents found the back of the net first as a header from a corner was saved originally by Romeo, but the ball spun over the line for 1-0 to them, despite best efforts from Matt to clear the ball. We then created a couple of chances; Ciaran had a shot tipped onto the bar; Jake had a header tipped onto the bar. So, we were getting close to scoring. We then had a great chance as Michael was fouled inside the box for a penalty. He stepped up to take the spot kick but unfortunately put it wide. Royal Greenwich Borough soon doubled their lead as we lost the ball in our own half, their striker took on our last defender and chipped the ball over Romeo for 2-0 going into halftime. We knew we hadn’t had a bad half, but we needed to take our chances to get back into the game.
Throughout the majority of the second half, both sides didn’t create that much, albeit found themselves in promising positions, but it didn’t come to much. With time running out we needed a goal, and we got one as Ciaran’s delivery from a free kick found Jake who headed over the keeper for 2-1 with 11-minutes remaining. Immediately from the kick-off, we forced the ball back to their keeper who lost it under pressure from Michael, who scored our equaliser with 10 minutes left. After this, both sides seemed intent on attacking continuously, but in the 3rd minute of injury time, Parkwood won a free kick on the halfway line. Ciaran crossed the ball into the penalty area, who found Matt at the back post who headed back across goal for Kurt to score in the last minute of the game and rounded off an amazing comeback win for us. A very solid display from all the team which gives us our second win on the bounce.
